Susan Groggs: Piano

Susan Groggs is a passionate pianist originally from Cuyahoga Falls. She began piano lessons at 5 years old and has been in love with the instrument ever since. In 2022 she began attending The University of Akron pursuing a BA in Piano Performance and hopes to continue in a master’s program after graduation. She has had the pleasure of studying with Joseph Licitri, Prof. Philip Thomson and Dr. Mayumi Kikuchi. 

Susan enjoys playing many types of music. In addition to solo classical piano she plays with the UA Jazz Ensemble and UA Wind Symphony. She plays in a student jazz trio which collaborated with the UA School of Dance and NCCAkron in April of 2024. Susan also plays keys with a local band doing funk, soul and original music. She has been a long-time church accompanist in both traditional and contemporary settings and has accompanied for local middle schools for several years. 

Susan’s teaching philosophies are centered around creating passionate, well-rounded, excellent musicians. She believes in a personalized approach to teaching that complements the student’s goals, ability, and learning style. Susan stresses artistry, technique, reading, ear training, knowledge of harmony, effective practice methods, and above all, a love for music.
